Available services

Requirements and fees are set by the country's authority, not by each office. Each guide details them with a source, or explains where to confirm them when no figure can be published.

Before you go

  1. Book your appointment

Most services require an appointment. Book on the official portal, never through intermediaries.

  2. Gather your documents

Check the requirements for your service and bring originals and copies separately.

  3. Reconfirm and arrive early

Check hours and closures the day before. A home-country holiday is the most common cause of a wasted trip.

Practical questions before you go

Short answers based on the jurisdiction, channels and hours documented in this record.

I live in Hawaii — is San Francisco really my consulate?

Yes. Even though it is an ocean away, Hawaii and Guam are part of San Francisco's district, together with Northern and Central California, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Most applications can be started by mail through VFS Global without traveling.

Where do I physically submit my passport or OCI application in San Francisco?

At the VFS Global application center at 642 Harrison Street, Suite 200 — not at the consulate. The consulate at 71 Stevenson Street handles emergencies, notarial services and special cases.

What if I have an emergency outside office hours?

The consulate runs an assistance line for Indian nationals available 24/7 at +1 415-483-6629, accepting calls, texts and WhatsApp. For urgent visas on weekends or holidays there is also +1 415-939-2286.

Office-specific notes

  • After the fire that damaged its historic Jackson Street premises, the consulate operates on the 22nd and 23rd floors of 71 Stevenson Street in the Financial District.
  • It runs a 24/7 emergency line for Indian nationals (+1 415-483-6629, by call, text or WhatsApp) and a separate urgent-visa line for weekends and holidays (+1 415-939-2286).
  • Its district is the most scattered in India's US network: from Northern California it jumps to Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Hawaii and Guam; applications are lodged at the VFS Global center at 642 Harrison Street.
