Step by step
Choose: online or at a centre
If you already have a DUI and live in the US, you can renew or replace it at dui.sv from your phone, with facial recognition and home delivery. For a first DUI or changes of details, go to a centre.

Pay
Online on the RNPN payment site or at banks; the fee is USD 35.
Collect
At centres with on-site printing, the same day: the RNPN announced it in August 2026 for Chicago, Aurora, Charlotte, Springdale and Doral, and earlier for San Francisco and Duluth.

- Trying to get a DUI for a minor: it is issued from age 18 only.
- Changing marital status before it is recorded in El Salvador.

Scope of this guide
The Documento Único de Identidad is issued by the national registry (RNPN) at service centres located in consulates. The RNPN lists 18 centres in the United States, and several print the DUI the same day. It is also the identity document for Salvadorans abroad: there is no official Salvadoran consular ID card.

How much is a DUI in the US?
USD 35 at a service centre, for a first DUI, renewal, replacement or change. The online renewal for US residents costs USD 55, including home delivery by DUI Express.
Do I get the DUI the same day?
At centres with on-site printing, yes. The RNPN expects 18 of its 24 centres abroad to have it by the end of 2026.
