03 · Process

Step by step

  1. Book for free

    On CitaConsular (citaconsular.sreci.gob.hn) or on ACOS (asuntosconsulares.inm.gob.hn), the consular booking system linked by the INM. Both were active in 2026; nobody may charge you for an appointment.

  2. Prepare originals

    All documents must be originals. Without the full requirements the procedure is not carried out.

  3. Under 21: both parents

    Or an original authorisation from the absent one, made before a notary in Honduras or at a Honduran consulate, naming an adult over 21.

  4. Pay by money order

    USD 60 (5 years) or USD 75 (10 years). For home delivery, bring a USD 6.45 stamp.

Appointments

Appointments are free on the official systems (SRECI's CitaConsular or INM's ACOS). The help line for US consulates is (470) 751-9077, 6:00 to 20:00 Honduras time. SRECI forbids any charge on top of the official fees.

Who it applies to

  • Honduran adults with a valid identity card: 5- or 10-year passport.
  • Applicants under 21: 5-year passport only.
  • People without a valid identity card, or who never had one, can apply with alternative documents (see list).

Common mistakes

  • Bringing cash: US consulates only accept money orders.
  • Requesting the 10-year passport for someone under 21.
  • Bringing copies instead of originals.
  • Attending with one parent without the other's authorisation.
  • Paying third parties for the appointment or more than the official fee.
