03 · Process

Step by step

  1. Confirm the office for your state

    Each consulate serves specific states. Dual citizenship appointments are not booked on passport.gov.ph: each office runs its own system.

  2. Book through your office's system

    Washington uses its dual citizenship booking page (free); San Francisco uses pcgsanfrancisco.as.me/dual. Chicago first asks for a pre-assessment by email.

  3. Attend with originals and copies

    In Washington the oath and certificate are completed the same day.

  4. After the oath, your first passport

    It is processed as a new application, with the identification certificate and the PSA birth certificate.

Each office runs its own dual citizenship calendar: the Embassy in Washington with its free booking system, San Francisco at pcgsanfrancisco.as.me/dual and Chicago after an email pre-assessment. San Francisco does not accept mailed applications.

05 · Your case

Who it applies to

  • Natural-born Filipinos who acquired another citizenship by naturalisation, aged 18 or over.
  • Unmarried children under 18 can be included as dependants; in Washington they need not attend.
  • Not for people born abroad on or after 17 January 1973 to a Filipino parent: they are dual citizens from birth and only need a Report of Birth.

06 · Avoid a repeat visit

Common mistakes

  • Submitting a local civil registry birth certificate instead of the PSA one.
  • Signing the form before the appointment where you are told not to.
  • Applying under RA 9225 for a child born abroad after 1973 who is already Filipino by birth.
  • Paying by personal check: not accepted, and Chicago only takes money orders or cashier's checks.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Philippine dual citizenship cost in the US?

USD 50 for the principal applicant and USD 25 for each minor child included in Washington, San Francisco, New York and Chicago. Houston charges USD 50, plus USD 25 for an affidavit if the naturalisation certificate is missing.

Do I lose US citizenship?

RA 9225 does not require renouncing the foreign citizenship. What it means for your other nationality is decided by that country's law.
