03 · Process

Step by step

  1. Book at citas.cancilleria.gob.ec

    Choose your consulate under “Centros administrativos” and the service “Pasaportes exterior”. Enter your cédula or passport, confirm the emailed code and pick a date.

  2. One appointment per person

    Each appointment covers one passport and lasts up to 30 minutes: every family member needs their own. No appointment or incomplete documents means no service.

  3. Do not bring photos

    The photo is taken at the consulate. No glasses or piercings, ears uncovered.

  4. Pay the way your consulate asks

    Washington takes money orders only; New Jersey, cards; Houston, a deposit at Trustmark Bank; Connecticut, cash or money order for the exact amount.

  5. Collect or receive by mail

    Connecticut states 30 to 45 days. Mail delivery is optional and at your own risk, with a tracked Priority Mail envelope.

Appointments

Book on the Foreign Ministry's official system, citas.cancilleria.gob.ec, and cancel there with the confirmation code. The service is in person and walk-ins are not served.

05 · Your case

Who it applies to

  • Any Ecuadorian national, adult or minor.
  • Renewal after expiry, loss, theft or damage. There are no “revalidations”: a passport's validity cannot be extended.
  • Minors, with both parents present or a special power of attorney from the absent one.
  • People over 65 (50% discount) and people with a disability of 30% or more (exempt).

Common mistakes

  • Booking one appointment for the whole family.
  • Presenting a birth record as proof of identity.
  • Bringing US documents without translation or apostille.
  • Paying in a form your consulate does not accept.
  • Expecting the passport's validity to be extended: a new one must be issued.

How long is an Ecuadorian passport valid?

Ten years.

Can I go without an appointment?
